Another fun activity for the younger players..XChange. Helps to get them moving quickly with the ball and keeping their eyes up while reading visual cues and making decisions.

This drill is a Renato Pasquali drill I picked up from Mike MacKay of Basketball Manitoba.

How do you get players to move when they are scared that they'll lose their spot and be in the middle? I've played the game and watched it devolve into a stalemate with nobody willing to make the first move.

I get them to understand that they need to 'read' the opponent (in this case the man in the middle). They learn to realize that when the opponent is facing the other way, they have a momentary advantage. They can fake going (like a baseball runner) and play with the risk taking a little. Also, you have the option of the varying the distances appropriately by adjusting the number of players on the perimeter and the middle-to-perimeter distance.

I've not had this problem yet. Sounds like you had bunch of players with fixed mindsets. That might be a good opportunity to teach them the difference between the fixed and growth mindset.
