I apologize, it has been a while since we have posted on here.  Right now we are 5-2 on the season and face probably the best team in the state tom. night.  They push the ball very well and shoot it great from behind the 3 pt. line.  Here is what we are doing today.

  1. Dynamic warm-up
  2. Skill Development-20  (includes position work and shooting progression)
  3. Army Drill-10
  4. 1v1 closeout off a skip pass-10
  5. 3v3 closeouts-10
  6. 5v5 HC and FC focusing on transition defense / ball movement and work against their press and 1-1-3 defense
  7. FT standard- 14/16

We lost last night 57-52, and played very well.  We held them to their lowest point output of the season, and we did through our control of the offensive tempo.  2 missed lay-ups in the last 2 min. and a turnover sealed the deal for us and then we had to foul.  All in all we played very well, now we just need to close out the game as strong as we played the other 30 min.

Here is todays practice:

  1. Dynamic warm-up (5)
  2. Individual Development (10)
  3. Individual defense (10) 1v1 HC / 1v1 closeout
  4. Team Defense (15) 3v3 closeout / 4v4 switch / Army Drill
  5. Shooting progression (10) 3 in a row / 5 straight shooting / partner shooting
  6. Team Offense (15) Circle drill / cut-throat-5 good screens / Live
  7. Team Situations (10) Stop and score
  8. FT standard (5)

We are returning from the Thanksgiving break and have not practiced since last Tuesday and we played the night before.  We are treating it like we are conducting our first practice of the season.  We are going over man-2-man defensive principles.  AFter Army Drill everything we will do will be 5v5 HC and FC.  Playing to 2 scores or for 2 minutes and stopping to teach, emphasizing our offensive and defensive concepts.  We need to get in a lot of 5v5 to get back in the flow because we have agame tom.

  1. Warm-up (10) Dynamic / Jump Rope
  2. Skill (20) 3 in a row / 5 straight / Post, guard breakdowns / FT Standard
  3. Army Drill (15) 3v3 / 4v4 / 5v5
  4. Team Situations 5v5 (45) emphasizing defensive and offensive rules through restrictions and scoring systems.

As we went through the day we decided to go back and add some breakdown and small sided games instead of the straight 5v5 to get more reps in.  Here is what we ended up doing.

  1. Warm-up (10) Dynamic / jump rope
  2. 1v1 deny the wing (10)
  3. 3v3 Hocley drill (15) Switch screens / positioning / 5pt. games
  4. Shooting progression (10) 1 and 2 hand 3 in a row / 5 straight shooting / partner shooting
  5. Army drill (10) 3v3 and 4v4
  6. 5v5 FC (20) 55-5 / 5 pt. games
  7. Ft Standard (5)
  8. Extra shooting and lifting (20)

Played a great second half last night in a come from behind win.  We were down by 15 and got back in it.  Offensively we struggled vs. the run and jump early and it got us out of rhythm so we are going to work on that today in practice.

  1. Warm-up (10) Jump rope / Dynamic
  2. 1v1 deny the wing (10)
  3. 3v3 Hockey (15) safety valve / 5 pt. games / ball screen and switch
  4. Shooting progression (10) 1 and 2 hand 3 in a row / 5 straight shooting / olympic shooting 2's and 3's
  5. Army Drill (10) 3v3 / 4v4
  6. 5v5 Game prep (15) walk through p&r offense, flex offense / 5 pt. games
  7. FT Standard (5)

This past week we managed to pull off 3 out of 4 games with a win, all 3 wins coming in overtime.  One thing that has hurt us at crucial times has beek our rebounding.  Usually we would hit certain things every practice, such as the army drill, but today we are going to try something new.  We will definitely get in our transition defense work but through another drill we created. We will see how it goes.

  1. Warm-up (15) Jump rope / dynamic / push-up starts
  2. Skill Development (15) Shooting progression / 1v1 reb. techi / 2 man rebounding
  3. Tactical Development (50) 3v3 transition rebouding / 4v4v4 reb. cut-throat / Through quick-hitter / 3 man war / 5v5 reb. scrimmage
  4. FT Standard (5)
  5. Cooldown (5)

Scoring system: Baskets=1 pt. / Off. reb.=3 pts. / Def. reb.=2 pts.

Its been a while since we have posted, so I apologoze for that.  Here is what we are doing today.

1. Warm-up: Jump rope / Shooting progression / Dynamic flexibility

2. Phase 1-Transition Defense (20): Army Drill / Duke Transition

3. Phase 2-HC Defense (20): 1v1 FC / 3v3 / 3v3 reb. cut-throat / Around the horn

4. Phase 3-Transition Offense (10): Get em' drill / Read break

5. Phase 4-HC Offense (25): Offensive review challenge / 5v5 cut-throat, 1 dribble, back screen on ball reversal

6. Skill development (15): 2v0 progression / olympic shooting

We are trying a new format that we learned from some coaches over the break.  Just a different way to teach things so we are going to give it a go and see how it works.

Been a while since we posted on here again, I apologize.

 Monday we did this:

  • 3-man drills (15)
  • 5v5 Motion emphasis on touching the post and screening (20)
  • Army Drill (10)
  • 4v4v4 defensive cut-throat (10)
  • Blitz Drill (20)

Basically we were looking at alot of FC work because we had been out of the gym here because of ice storms in the area.

Today we are trying something different.  We are going to let the players devise the practice plan, with help from the coaches using our drills and emphasis.  We are trying to see if by giving them some say-so we can increase ownership plus we think it will be much easier to hold them accountable for something they choose.   Will let you know how it goes.
